How do I Register as a Seller (Arstist) and Create an Account?

It is easy to create an Artist (Seller) Account.  As our online presence is global, you do not have to reside in the U.S. - we welcome all artists, galleries and collectors (and of course buyers) from all over the world!  You can get started in several different ways:

Either click on REGISTER in the black navigation bar located near the top of the website or click on “Register for a Free Trial” in red letters just below the black bar or click in the purple SELL ART box where it says “Free Trial”.  Just continue to follow the simple instructions.

After you have registered, the instructions will continue to walk you through uploading your Profile picture, writing a short Artist’s Statement and Artist’s Story and then creating your Gallery or Galleries by uploading your images into your Gallery. To obtain digital images of your artwork so that they can be uploaded onto the OAO website; you can use the camera on your phone, an actual digital camera, a scanner or even a non-digital camera by taking the film to be developed and requesting a digital CD. Should you have any problem uploading your images, please contact support@originalartonline.com and provide as many details as possible about your questions. There are currently no limits on the number of images you can have in your Gallery/Galleries.

 

Is There a Fee to Advertise My Artwork on OAO?

OAO is currently offering a 6-Month Free Trial Membership to the 1st 100 artists to advertise their artwork on OAO.  After the initial six months, there will be a nominal monthly fee of $6.99 per month to continue advertising your artwork on OAO.  Even though you as an artist probably already have your own website and/or may be advertising your artwork on other websites, the more exposure you can get the better!

 

Password

The requirements for creating a Password are any characters up to 20 characters in length, with no spaces.

If you should forget your Password, simply go to Log In at the top right corner of the website.  After the Log In box opens, click on Forgot Your Password at the bottom of the box.

Changing your Password is simple - hover the mouse over your name at the top right of the website page (after you have Logged In); and when the drop-down box opens, click on Account Info and fill in the box.

Email Address

In addition to needing an email address to register your account, www.originalartonline.com (OAO) automatically sends all Buyers’ and prospective Buyers’ purchases, offers, questions and general communications through our website to your email address.  It is critical that you keep your account updated with your current email address, and make sure your email settings allow you to receive our OAO emails and Buyers’ emails.

Am I Able to Edit My Artist Gallery?

Yes, once you have created your Gallery (or Galleries), you are able to make changes.  For example, should you want to add another image to your Gallery, move something to a separate Gallery or remove something you have sold; you can do this by Logging In and then going to “My Galleries” located in the black navigation bar near the top of the webpage. You can either add a new Gallery or edit an existing Gallery by looking at the bottom of your applicable Gallery and then clicking on the small box with the pencil icon located to the right of the name of that Gallery.

What Should I do to Help Sell My Artwork?

As previously stated, OAO is an online marketing website created to get your artwork in front of the global community.  By advertising your Gallery on OAO, you are already accomplishing one of the most difficult tasks - marketing efficiently and cost-effectively - and getting your artwork in front of Buyers everywhere!  Although we do not get involved in the sales, there are some obvious suggestions you should consider.  

Check your email at least every day to see if you have received any Purchases, Offers or questions from Buyers or prospective Buyers, and be sure to reply immediately.  If you receive an Offer you do not like; rather than just ignoring it, you may want to consider making a Counteroffer.  Even if you prefer not make a Counteroffer, it is best to send at least a quick response to the Buyer; as they may decide to visit your Gallery again in the future. Sometimes it helps to follow-up your initial email communications with a phone conversation, but that is up to you. Pricing your artwork appropriately is extremely important too; compare your pricing with other artists in your genre and how well-known you are and they are. When shipping, always pack your artwork in a professional manner; and ship it out as quickly as possible and when promised.  It is always a good idea to provide insurance and any shipping and/or tracking information to the Buyer.

In addition to OAO’s online marketing, you should also remember to add your OAO web address (URL) to your business cards, invoices, in your signature at the end of your emails and on social media.

Please also remember to post only actual art in your online Gallery; i.e., no personal photography is allowed (such as wedding or vacation pictures). Also, be sure that whatever artwork you upload is in good taste and would not be offensive to the viewers.  Nudes are acceptable, as long as they are not inappropriate and are not photography.

Offers From Buyers

If the Buyer does not wish to pay your asking price on the particular piece of art that he or she is interested in, the Buyer may decide to MAKE AN OFFER or even send you an email with questions.  All Offers made by a prospective Buyer will be automatically forwarded to you through the OAO website via an email, and will contain information about the piece of artwork and the Buyer’s shipping and contact info. As stated previously, remember to check your email daily and respond as quickly as possible (right away if you are able to). If you receive an Offer you do not like; rather than just ignoring it, you may want to consider making a Counteroffer.  Even if you prefer to not make a Counteroffer, it is best to send at least a quick response to the Buyer; as they may decide to visit your Gallery again at some point. Sometimes it helps to follow-up your initial email communications with a phone conversation, but that is up to you.  You can Counteroffer back and forth until a mutually agreed upon price is reached.

All of your current orders will be located in the MY ORDERS page, located in the grey bar at the top of the website.

Receiving Payments

That is up to you the Seller (Artist) to decide what forms of payment you will accept, as OAO does not get involved in any transaction.  Of course, the more payment options you provide, the better.

Shipping

As talked about previously, OAO is not involved in the actual transactions; so does not handle the shipping. However, when shipping, you will always want to pack your artwork in a professional manner; and ship it out as quickly as possible and when promised. If you do not have access to proper packing materials, you might want to consider using a professional packing/shipping service. It is entirely up to you as to whether you want to offer free shipping or charge the shipping to the Buyer. We also would highly recommend that you obtain insurance when shipping and provide any shipping and/or tracking information to the Buyer.

Exchanges, Refunds & Issues With A Buyer

Although OAO does not get involved in any way with any transaction between the Seller (Artist) and the Buyer or prospective Buyer, there are suggestions to consider.  It is always up to the Seller to determine whether a refund or an exchange should be made.  Good customer service is always important for future sales; however, common sense and the reasons and facts for an exchange or refund request should always prevail. If the artwork was delivered damaged and shipping insurance had been provided, then the shipping company would most likely be liable.

Any issues with a Buyer or prospective Buyer are handled between the Seller (Artist) and the Buyer. Great customer service resolves most issues.
